The Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi Sabhagar, KIHEAT on 16th October 2019 with great zeal, enthusiasm and patriotism. The function began with the lighting of a lamp by the chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, V.C. of GGSIPU at 3.15 p.m., commemorating Gandhiji’s 150th birthday and followed by a short description about the chief guest.
Professor Mahesh Verma was appointed the Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in June 2019 for the next five years. Before this stint, he served as the director of Maulana Azad Medical Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS). Mr. Verma is an eminent academician, researcher and administrator. Development of infrastructure, focus on multidisciplinary research, ensuring student and employee welfare measures—these are some of the areas that he will be focusing on. The Padma Shri recipient is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons & Physicians, Glasgow; fellow, Royal College of Surgeons, England; fellow, Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh; fellow, International College of Oral Implantologist and an honorary member of the American Dental Association.
Then he was welcomed by the Chairman, KIHEAT, Mr. V.P.Tandon, General Secretary, KIHEAT, Mrs. Vandana Tandon and Vice-Chairperson Mr. Harsh Tandon by presenting a bouquet, book and a plant. Mr. Ravi Dadhich, Registrar, GGSIPU was also welcomed in similar way.
This was followed by the award distribution Ceremony- Late Shree O.P. Tandon Awards were given in the field of Academics to Dr. Priti Srivastava, Principal, B.Ed. Department, KIHEAT, Ms. Sheetal, Assistant Professor, B.Ed. Department, KIHEAT and others.
A video was played to showcase the achievements of Kamal Institute over the last few years. Then Prof. Mahesh Verma was invited to address the gathering. He started his speech by saying that it is his first visit to any affiliated colleges of GGSIPU i.e. KIHEAT and that other affiliated institutes or colleges will be jealous of this. He applauded the expansion of Infrastructure in the institute by saying that it enables the students and gives them a sense of accomplishment and achievements. It helps in nation building, community building and to move forward the human resources. He said that those who are more responsive to the changes will survive more than the most powerful or strong. We produce a change and move forward and teachers are an important aspect of any educational institutions. Institutions are built by the human resources. He appreciated the young and dynamic teachers of KIHEAT by saying that they are bubbling with positive energy and have a good connect with the students.
He said that the qualities of seeds sown are very important to get a rich harvest. Education is a combination of Knowledge, Skills and Attitude. He further stated that GGSIPU is a big university which serves a huge number of students and we need to grow hand-in-hand. There has to be a synergy between institutes/ university and affiliated colleges and we are here for a good cause. He expressed his desire to visit KIHEAT again in future. He concluded by wishing good luck to all.
This was followed by an exhilarating group dance performed by the students of KIHEAT on a patriotic song from the movie SULTAN- “chal mod de uska panja re”, which made the students and faculties emotional and created patriotic atmosphere.
Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Harsh Tandon, Vice-Chairman, KIHEAT, who treasured the valuable presence of Prof. Mahesh Verma in the function. After this, all the dignitaries left the auditorium and the function continued with a fabulous play on Gandhiji titled as “do October- ek badalte swarup ka safar” performed by the B.Ed. students of KIHEAT, giving the message of simple living, Swachh Bharat, patriotism etc., which inspired everyone present in the hall and encouraged them to think about the simple livings of Gandhiji and follow them. The programme concluded with the National anthem sung by all.
