It all started at 9:30 in the morning when everyone gathered at their respective bus stops eagerly waiting, nervous and at the same time excited about the new college, course, teachers and friends. All students were warmly welcomed by a very sweet gesture and in a very traditional manner, with “Tilak” on our foreheads. It was the very first time they realised that the college is appropriate mix of both traditional, cultural values and the advance world of modernity. By applying tilak, there was a sense of belongingness towards the college and it felt homely.
The programme started with “the lightning of lamp” which symbolised ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’. A lamp teaches students to be ‘upright’ and ‘dispel darkness’ and hence lamp was lighted to ‘bow down to knowledge’ as the greatest of all forms of wealth. It was accompanied by Ganesh Vandana, seeking blessings from the divine being and with the hope of prosperity.
Different guests of honour delivered their speeches, explaining about their experiences in life and valuable suggestions for us. They advised students to be updated regarding current events, general knowledge, writing skills, communication skills and importance of reading. Reading different books makes students wiser and gives them an insight into different perspectives. They also explained students how to always try to learn new things by each passing day so that one can become better and wiser person. They asked all to be like a ‘Kamal’, who instead of rooted in the muddy water, blooms out so beautifully and symbolises purity that the surrounding area becomes unnoticed. They asked all to rise above all the dirt, immorality and make ourselves symbolic of purity of the body, speech and mind.
Students were then asked to go for lunch which was beautifully organised and was delicious at the same time. It was a great treat and also a great ending for such a beautiful event. Lastly, all the teachers, fresher’s and the seniors gathered to click a group photograph to preserve the memories of such a great day. The day was full of surprises, enthusiasm, nervousness, learning and lot of energy.
